I would like to start with a quote by James Bryant Conant. He says, re motivation and success, that we should “behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out.”
When I first read that quote I smiled and chuckled to myself. Then I realized, like so many quotes, this one held a deep truth about life. Smart turtle, showing us something as deep as the ocean waters!
The turtle faces many obstacles during its journey through the waters of life and does not shy away from them (okay, maybe really big predators, but you get the drift). We are a bit like that turtle. Only by facing things head on can we make a change, have an impact, create desired outcomes. Life becomes vibrant when we take a chance, when we try new things and embrace our dreams. Basically, when we “stick our necks out.” Hmm.
It seems like that all the past few years have been about for me – circumstance after circumstance requiring me to face things that scare me, to go forth into unknown and unfamiliar territory. They say life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Ok, so I must be close. And things are changing.
What about you? Have you had this experience, this reaching a point where you had to decide whether to go for it or not? Are you on the other side of that, and can you recount the steps you took along the way? Or are you right on the edge of making a choice to do something life-changing or not, and do you feel breathless as the time nears to decide?
All I know is, embracing writing has been that “ride” for me, the adventure of a lifetime. Your joining me makes it all the sweeter. Thank you.
